Block Chain - The Future
Block Chain is coming. Regardless of the debate about its possible functionality as the single truth of all identity - it will be the future of the digital world, in the same way that PKI Certificate infrastructure has facilitated secure communication so far…..
So it's possible that Block Chain could be used to identify every soul on the planet authoritatively. How likely ever is that though when we consider that type of system doesn’t exist now. The closest related systems would be national identities or passport systems and these operate regionally or by country. So why would we use Block Chain to fix a problem we don't have - rather than use it to fix the problems we do….
I have consulted in a large number of businesses and worked in large corporate environments. All of which have an issue with single identity. All of which have challenges that could be fixed by a peer to peer authentication that couldn't be manipulated.
Then there's supply chain, digital ownership, code and data marking, customer information - all of which is a challenge to digitalization and the 'Brave New World.' I can't begin to explain the power of being able to own and identify your assets in a globally connected and distributed age.
Forward thinking providers should be jumping on the Block Chain bandwagon and packaging this as a simple consumable service with integration into everything that they provide, or quite simply - they will be irrelevant.
I'll be looking into who's doing what in a later blog.
